One Tough Winter: Is It Affecting Your Business?

6 Mar

Has this harsh winter season set you back?

Snow plow, C2C Resources.comAcross the nation, we all feel it: bitter cold in a blanket of snow and ice. Not only are we feeling the physical effects of this unusually harsh winter, but we’re starting to feel the financial effects as well.

The chain reaction to a blanket of snow can mean different things to different businesses. One may benefit for a period of time, another may not recover at all.

A recent New York Times article put it this way:

Many weather effects are either transient (a snowstorm may keep you from the car dealership for a day or two, but it probably won’t cancel your plans to buy a car) or self-balancing (a hardware store may sell less paint and drywall but more shovels and salt).

But in some industries, losses cannot be made up so easily. A restaurant forced to shutter on a Tuesday is not going to sell twice as many burgers on Wednesday.

This wicked winter is sure to have a trickle down effect on everyone’s business in one way or another.  Hopefully for you, the negative impact will be minimal.

What do you predict for your business?
